Nonhealing Ulcer

Description of disability:

Any Non-healing wound or ulcer on skin that has been present for 3-4 weeks duration, without healing is called Non-healing ulcer. A nonhealing ulcer may be defined as existing longer than 6 months or with no wound healing apparent for 12 weeks.

Treatment:

A non healing ulcer usually requires skin grafting to close the wound up. The skin is harvested from usually the thigh, meshed and applied on to the area.

Post operative care:

Strict elevation of the part has to be done for a minimum of 10 days and the patient i s usually admitted. Regular follow-ups and dressings are required.
