Post Burn Contractures of Wrist, Thumb

  • Post Burn Contractures of Wrist, Thumb

Description of disability:

One of the major determinants of the quality of life in burns survivors is the functionality of the hands. Postburn hand deformities, if bilateral, can make a burn survivor a total cripple.

Treatment:

The problem is largely preventable by good initial care, which would include elevation of the hand, appropriate splinting, early grafting of deep burns and supervised physiotherapy. In post-bum contractures of the hand surgical treatment is often necessary when prevention by means of splints has failed to improve the functional or aesthetic outcome.

Post operative care :

After one month of operation, with the use of external fixator, K-wiring and split skin thickness grafting, the result was achieved.
