  • Cleft Nose Deformity
  • Cleft Nose Deformity

Description of disability:

The cleft nasal deformity is a complex challenge in plastic surgery involving the skin, cartilage, mucosa, and skeletal platform. Deformity may be quite severely asymmetric. Sepals' deviations, artistic nostrils, turbinate hypertrophy are associated with a cleft lip. Patients with cleft nose may have significant scar tissue from previous surgical interventions.

Treatment:

Septorhinoplasty involves reshaping the nasal septum, the bony platform on which the nose rests, the alar cartilages and skin; additional cartilage or bone may be required. The surgery is done under general anesthesia and involves overnight stay in the hospital.

Post Operative Care:

The nostrils are packed for a day or two and an external nasal splint may be applied for a week.
